Impression
- When I tried to book the highway bus ticket from Tokyo Station to Tateyama for Wakashio marathon race at the end of December 2015 via
Internet, I found that the seats were already fully booked. I did not know that the ticket had been sold from December 1.
I was at a loss, but I tried to book the ticket from Shinjuku Station to Tateyama.
Luckily I found only a few available seats. Of course, I booked the ticket.
- However, I was not sure that I could catch up the bus to be left at 6:00 AM from Shinjuku Station.
To solve the problem, I decided to book a Capsule Hotel in Shinjuku on Saturday.
- This is my first experience to stay in a Capsule Hotel. The hotel was located near Seibu-Shinjuku station.
I arrived in the hotel at 15:00. I was surprised to see a long line of guests waiting check-in.
- I found a bill in the hotel saying "Bringing food and drink into the hotel is prohibited!" I didn't know it.
- Anyway, after check-in, I went into the room. I found the room was really capsule-size and that just for sleeping.
- First I took a bath in the big common tub, and then went to the hotel's restaurant for dinner.
I drank Japanese sake for immediate sleep although the price was considerably expensive.
- I was drunk and went to bed shortly after the dinner. I waked up a few time and heard noisy snoring from the neighborhood.
- I checked out the hotel at 5:30 AM. It was cold outside, but a lot of young guys were hanging around at Kabuki-cho area.
- I went to Yoyogi Station to Shinjuku Station via Yamanote Line. JR Highway Bus Terminal was very close to the East Exit of
Yoyogi Station.
- There were four buses. My bus was the third. The bus left the terminal around 6:00 AM.
It was very warm in the bus and thus I had been falling into a nap until the bus reached Tateyama.
- According to weekly weather forecast, it would be rainy in the morning on Sunday. However, I was relieved that the forecast changed to cloudy to sunny.
- The bus arrived in the marathon site at 7:50 AM. I found that the location of the reception was changed.
- After the registration, I could meet the running mates and changed the wears. It was cloudy and cold.
The marathon site was filled with runners after 9:00 AM. There were long lines of runners in front of the toilets.
- I went to the start line around 9:30 AM. The full marathon race started at 10:00 AM.
The loss time was almost 4 minutes.
- It was breezing, but it was clod. My body didn't warm up after running.
- The sun once appeared just before 10 km point and it was getting warm for a while.
It was almost cloudy and cold while running. Thus wearing a neck warmer was effective.
- I got three half-cut cream breads at the aid station of 10 km point.
- I continued to run although I felt a little bit tired just before 15 km point.
- I could keep the running pace of 6 minutes per 1 km until 25 km point.
I again felt tired after 25 km point. But anyway, I could pass 30 km point.
I could slowly run up the long slope after 30 km point.
- After 33 km point was a return trip alongside the sea. For me, it was a long and hard course every year.
- I continued to run and finally reached the 4 km point to the finish.
But it would take more time to reach the finish.
- My running pace gradually slowed down as usual.
- I reached 2 km to the finish, but I was almost tired of running.
But I had to run.
- During the last 1 km, I was passed by a lot of runners.
- I could finish without walking. The finish time was 4 hours 28 minutes. I was satisfied that I could finish the
race within 4 hours 30 minutes as I did last year.
- I found this was the 12th Wakashio marathon race!
- After the finish, we drank beer and wine. We had a drink party at Japanese pub in front of the station.
- We took on the highway bus at 18:00 bound for Tokyo Station with drunk.
- I arrived in my house at 21:30. I was a little bit tired.
- Next morning I felt a pain on my right knee when stepped down the stairs. I was forced to put an anti-inflammatory analgesic plaste
on my knee. (The pain went away a few days later!)
