Impression
- Although the cherry blossom started to bloom in the metropolitan area, the weather man said it would be
cloudy and cold in Sakura City. I was disappointed.
- As usual, I took on the limited express of Keisei Line to be left at 6:50 AM from Nippori Station.
Fortunately I could get seat and arrived in Sakura Station at 7:40 AM.
- The platform was filled with runners and it took much time to get out the station.
- I gave up to take on the shuttle bus and started to walk to the marathon site.
- I reached marathon site past 8:00 AM. I went to the reception to get a T-shirt.
- The ball park was already full of runners, I promised to meet my running mate at the same location where
we met last year. However, I found the tents for event were built there.
- Therefore, I was forced to change the location for changing wears. It was still cloudy and cold.
- I decided to wear a long-sleeve T-shirt with short-sleeve T-shirt on it. It was a good decision.
- The runners gathered more and more and thus I couldn't find my running mate before the start.
- The full marathon race would start at 9:30 AM. I went to the start line around 9:00 AM.
It was announced that almost 7,000 runners joined. The runners seemed to increase year by year.
- When started, it was still cloudy and cold. I wore vinyl bag for running.
- The race started as scheduled. The loss time was one and half minutes.
- It started to drizzle around 5 km point. I was passed by 4-hour pace-runners past 5 km point.
- The cold wind was blowing when running the course in the rice field. It was good for me to wear the vinyl bag.
Soon the drizzle stopped.
- I met 4 hour 30 minutes pace makers around 15 km point. I ran with them for a while, but I passed them.
- I felt a little bit tired passing 20 km point and running pace slowed, but I continue to run.
- I was passed by 4 hour 15 minutes pace makers just before 25 km point. I had to stop at 25 km water supply point
for toilet. Thus to my regret, I lost almost 5 minutes. I took off the vinyl bag there.
- I changed the mood and started to run again. Soon I ran the course with row of cherry blossom trees alongside Teganuma Lake.
The cherry blossom did not bloom as yet.
- Then I aimed to pass 30 km point and I managed to pass it. I could run in good condition between 30 km and 33 km.
- I saw a lot of tired runners were walking there.
- The course was in the rice field from 34 km point again. Every year, I felt tired there and the distance to the finish
was so far away.
- However, this time, I tried to run as fast as possible between 35 km and 38 km.
As is to be expected, I finally felt tired passing 38 km point. It took much time to reach 40 km point.
- The time at 40 km point was 4 hours 13 minutes. I thought that I would be able to finish within 4 hours 30 minutes.
- However, I ran with my own running pace during the last 2 km to the finish,
- I could run up the last slope to the athletic field. The finish time was 4 hours 28 minutes.
I was happy that I could finish the race within 4 hours 30 minutes.
- After finish, I looked for my running mate, however, unfortunately, I could not find him.
Therefore, I decided to return to the station by shuttle bus.
- There was a long line at the shuttle bus stop. I had to wait for a long time.
- Anyway, I returned to Higashi-kurume Station and went to Italian restaurant for a glass of wine to celebrate
the completion of the race by myself.
